According to the South African Craft Brewers Association, there are more than 200 craft breweries in the country. There is a fairly large homebrewing community in major metropolitan cities across the country. Home brewers meet monthly in major cities, such as Cape Town, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Bloemfontein. The main clubs are Wort Hogs (Gauteng), Southyeasters (Cape Town), Durban Homebrewers (Durban), Free State Fermenters (Bloemfontein) and the Helderberg Homebrew Club in Somerset West.

Woodstock's own brewery produces some of the best beers in the country and offers guests the opportunity to learn about the brewing process by meeting some of the brewers.
These brewers are the brilliant minds responsible for beers and their delicious flavor combinations. Speaking of beers, Woodstock Brewery currently produces twelve different beers and distributes them throughout South Africa. Above the brewery is the Woodstock Beerhall. This is where guests can sit and eat Bavarian-style food while enjoying the beers on offer.
There are also tastings in which customers can participate. If you want to breathe fresh air, there's an outdoor patio with tables for guests to enjoy the urban landscape of Cape Town while drinking the beer of their choice. Some media outlets have jokingly referred to Cape Town as “The Cape of Good Hops”, in reference to the city's new notoriety in the craft beer scene. As with most other metropolitan cities, the craft beer revolution began a few years ago in Cape Town.
Ten years ago there was a brewery in Cape Town and now there are more than 20, and there are several more on the way. Microbreweries have existed in South Africa since the 1980s, but like the rest of the world, this niche industry was not in demand as it is today. Located in a triangular-shaped building, the tavern presents many of its main products, as well as some of its more limited launches in 750 ml bottles. Beer arrived in South Africa with its first white settlers and has been brewed here for more than 300 years.
I wanted to opt for a beer style that is almost non-existent in South Africa and, at the same time, try to change people's perspective on what beer could be. In recent years, commercially produced Bantu powder beer has replaced sorghum malt in homebrewing and in smaller industrial breweries. In South Africa, beer brewing licenses will only be issued in certain areas, which explains why industrial zones have become popular brewing centers. Originally initiated by Beer Route, a collaboration of craft breweries in South Africa, other actors have since joined to help guide tourists to taverns across the country.
The Western Cape can claim to have the most breweries, but South Africa's biggest city is quickly catching up. In part, this is undoubtedly due to the pride of working in one of the most respected breweries in South Africa, but I suspect that it is also partly due to Carey. South Africa's fifth largest city lags a little behind in the census of breweries, but beer is making its way into physical education and is helping to revive parts of the city that were once forgotten. In fact, for all of the breweries currently in South Africa, it wasn't the easiest place to find so much detail about.
Located in a city surrounded by mountains near Lesotho, Clarens Brewery has organized one of the best-known craft beer festivals in South Africa: the Clarens Craft Beer Festival. South Africa's beer landscape has long been dominated by South African breweries (which are now owned by the world's largest brewing company, AB InBev), which control around 90% of the country's beer market. It is currently launching what will be the first attempt to create a farm-style brewery in South Africa called Beard & Barrel Brew Company. Beer in South Africa has a long history, with a corporate history that dates back to the early 20th century.
