Who invented flying fish beer?

When Gene Muller founded Flying Fish Brewing Co. In 1995, it did so for the first time on the World Wide Web, making it the world's first virtual microbrewery. That first website helped generate positive press coverage and attract the investors needed to turn the virtual brewery into a real brewery. Muller said the idea was to create the website “This Old House meets the World Wide Web”, which would allow people to go behind the faucets and see the thousands of details needed to set up a microbrewery.

Flying Fish offers up to eight beers for the whole year, plus seasonal options and specialty beers at its Camden County tasting room and at stores in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. Beer writer Michael Jackson has praised the Flying Fish Dubbel as “a great example of this style”. Flying Fish beers were the first in the region to be presented at the Great British Beer Festival, the Oregon Brewers Festival and the Biere de Mondial in Canada. Over the years, Flying Fish has accumulated awards, moved to a larger facility in Somerdale, sold a majority stake to an investor, and this fall will lend its name to Flying Fish Crafthouse, a bar-restaurant in the Brewerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia that will serve its beers. Cape May Brewing purchased all of Flying Fish's assets, including its tasting room at 900 Kennedy Blvd.

Flying Fish beers have won ten medals at the Great American Beer Festival, more than any other brewery in New Jersey. As part of the agreement, Flying Fish will continue to be distributed by its wholesale distribution partners.
